Council Structure

Guilsfield Community Council is comprised of a part-time Clerk, a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Community Councillors. All Community Councillors are volunteers. The Community Council Clerk is a paid role, and is currently the only employee of the Council.

The Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson are elected each year at the Council’s Annual Meeting and serve one year in office, by a process described in the Standing Orders shown in the Governance section. They are drawn from the 12 Community Councillors in office at the time of the Annual Meeting.

Community Councillors are elected to office every 5 years following a democratic election process, as described in the Standing Orders. In the event that vacancies arise on the Community Council, residents are advised of an impending election by public notice and invited to stand. Under special circumstances residents may be co-opted to the Council, as described in the Standing Orders.
